    Little Bohemia Lodge is a rural vacation lodge and restaurant located off US Highway 51 in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin. The lodge was built in 1929 by Emil Wanatka on land he acquired that same year. Little Bohemia gained fame and infamy as the setting of a botched raid by the FBI (then called the Division of Investigation) against the John Dillinger Gang. The historic rustic lodge remains as it was at the time of the federal raid and along with original bullet holes from the gun battle still in the walls and windows, Little Bohemia Lodge has a collection of memorabilia from the gun battle.

    The National Railroad Museum (reporting mark NRMX) is a railroad museum located in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, US. Founded in 1956 by community volunteers, the National Railroad Museum is one of the oldest and largest U.S. institutions dedicated to preserving and interpreting the nation`s railroad history. Two years later, a joint resolution of Congress recognized the Museum as the National Railroad Museum. The museum has been a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization since 1958.Its collection of locomotives and rolling stock spans more than a century of railroading. Notable items include an Aerotrain; Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4017, one of the world`s largest steam locomotives; and British Railways Class A4 No. 60008 Dwight D Eisenhower (ex-London & North Eastern Railway No. 4496 Golden Shuttle) and train used by the Supreme Allied Commander and his staff in the United Kingdom and continental Europe during World War II.A museum building houses a wide variety of railroad artifacts, an archive, and photography gallery. A standard gauge track rings the grounds. An 80-foot (24 m) wooden observation tower has views of the Fox River and Green Bay. The museum hosts an annual Day Out with Thomas event, where Thomas the Tank Engine pulls young friends past the exhibited rolling stock; and in October, `Terror on the Fox`: Green Bay Preble Optimist Club`s haunted attraction that includes `haunted` train rides after dark. The Frederick J. Lenfesty Center, an enclosed and climate-controlled structure was recently added that houses several of the unique and rarer locomotives and cars.

  14. Tug Ludington

    The Tug Ludington (formerly Major Wilbur Fr. Browder) is a World War II era tugboat built in 1943 at Jacobson Shipyard in Oyster Bay, New York. The U.S. Army designated the tug LT-4. The tug`s armament consisted of two 50 caliber machine guns and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, towing ammunition barges across the English Channel. After World War II, it joined the U.S. Army Transportation Corps until 1947 when the Corps of Engineers transferred the tug to Kewaunee, Wisconsin and then renamed it the Tug Ludington. It was used in the construction and maintenance of many harbors on the Great Lakes and now rests in Harbor Park in Downtown, Kewaunee and is open to visitors for tours. As the Major Wilbur Fr. Browder, the tug is on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin.Although the U.S. Navy had more large ships than the U.S. Army in World War II, the Army had a larger number of total ships, almost twice as many as the Navy, including several thousand harbor craft. Classified as a large tug (LT), the Browder was able to sail to England under its own power. Several hundred LTs were built during World War II but only a few unmodified vessels exist today. A sister tug, the LT-5 Major Elisha K. Enson, now the Nash, is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with a similar history.The Browder was originally painted navy gray, but as the Ludington is now painted as it was in its second life as a construction and maintenance ship, in the colors of the Corps of Engineers, primarily black, silver, and red. The tug is 115 feet in length, with a 26-foot beam and 14 foot 3 inch draft. The tug was fitted for a crew of 24 in World War II, and 14 when operated by the Corps.

    America`s Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM) is dedicated to the history of the Black Holocaust in America. The museum was founded in 1988 by James Cameron, who became well known after surviving a lynching.Cameron died in 2006, and in 2008, the museum`s board of directors announced that the museum would be closed temporarily because of the reduced funding that occurred during the 2008 Great Recession. A foundation was created in 2012 to continue Cameron`s legacy and vision. In 2012, the foundation re-opened ABHM as a 3,200+ page virtual museum available on their website. In 2016, the foundation announced plans to move the physical museum to Milwaukee`s historic Bronzeville neighborhood, with an originally-planned 2019 re-opening, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the re-opening was delayed. Shortly following, an anonymous $10M donation in late 2021 was received, and the museum re-opened in February 2022.

The museum was founded by former submariners and civic leaders who wanted to bring a World War II submarine to Manitowoc to commemorate the role the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company played in building twenty-eight Gato and Balao-class submarines and landing craft that were used to fight that war. In 1970, the United States Navy donated USS Cobia to the museum. Cobia is a Gato-class submarine like those constructed in Manitowoc. Cobia is berthed in the Manitowoc River adjacent to the museum and is open to both museum visitors and overnight guests.

    The Peshtigo Fire Museum preserves the heritage of the Peshtigo Fire, which destroyed the city of Peshtigo, Wisconsin and surrounding area on October 8, 1871, killing over 2,000 people. It hosts storytelling, exhibits of artifacts from the fire, displays of the lifestyle at the time of the disaster, and a cemetery to memorialize those who died. The museum is adjacent to the Peshtigo Fire Cemetery, where the charred remains of over 350 people were buried in a mass grave. The cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
